No Place Like Home

A piece I wrote for Lateral Magazine’s “Home”!

No place like home because there is no home for me

There is no place like home.
We use that to mean there is no place else better than at home.
But
I have always thought
For some of us, there is really no place like home
Home does not exist for everyone
Some of us are wanderers, some of us are orphans
So, for those some, there is really no place like home

I saw these instruments left on the rocks of a beach in Hawaii
Out of place they were
But held their ground against the constant crashing of the waves they did
And in their strange out-of-place way,
There was a strange peace, a quiet persistence

Because despite the constant challenge of the waves
Though they were eroded and shriveled with time
They grounded each other
And claimed the rocks as their home

So I took out my camera, snapped a shot to immortalize them
There is no place like home for some
But, for those some, I imagine they will find home where they find peace.
